Extra-curricular activities

Our schoor offers many extra-curricular activities. The school magazine „ŠTUDENT“ (s. 1963) has become quite popular among our students as well as the folk group „DUNAJ“ (s. 1959), the school drama club „DRAMAŤÁK“ and a school radio.

The Student Council is in charge of  different types of school events.

DRAMAŤÁK

At our school we have something like a „teen drama theatre“. It’s a club open for everyone, who wants to be on the stage or be in something really interesting. It’s a chance to know lots of people, maybe to find friends. Our theatre name is „Dramaťák:“ It has produced three musicals: Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the latest play – Skrotenie(Taming). All these plays have been successful and people like them. Almost everyone in Komárno has seen them. The plays are based on William Shakespeare’s plays and have been given new interpretations by the club’s dramatist Jozef Černek. These plays have got attractive props, funny scenes and imaginative costumes. The Dramaťák is now preparing a new play.

Film club

In December 2011, our students decided to found a film club. It seemed like an amazing idea, so they started cooperating with civic aggregation Men in danger. They can pick a movie with topic of their interests. From racism or politics to social situation in Arabic countries. Afterwards, they meet together and watch the movie. After the movie, they discuss the topic and the problems, they try to find answers to unanswered questions.

Watching these movies with social topics is very heart-rending. It makes them think about problems of other people, not only theirs. They learn about other cultures and their thinking, which many times is so different from theirs. People don’t usually ruminate about life situations of others. And that is the reason to meet and think. Sometimes, when it is possible, they invite a guest to the club. Then he or she can talk about his/her own experience of the given topic and give really interesting information from another point of view. For instance, once they invited a member of peace-keeping forces in Afghanistan and his experience and memories were really impressive.

If you are interested in a film club at our school, you can check the page on Facebook – Filmový klub GĽJŠ.

Recently a new folk group called “Slovak rebels” has been created at our school.
